Checking on our Rental in Eagle Rock

IMG_0872A couple of years ago we were getting tired of investing in the area around our house.  It seemed like we were looking at the same houses for sale, crunching the same numbers and coming up with the same conclusions.

What we needed was change.

So we expanded our horizons and looked in the surrounding areas for potential investments.  We were more cautious as we were not as familiar with the locations, property values or what a typical property would rent for.  But as many things in our lives, we learned what we needed and finally made an offer on a property.

That was the house that we bought in Eagle Rock.

Now, years later, I’m driving out there to look at it for the first time in a long time.  This past week we had some windows replacement in Eagle Rock done for us as part of the maintenance schedule for the house and I waned to see it in person.  Honestly, it was an excuse to get out of town and out of the office, so I took it.

When I pulled up to the house, I couldn’t help but smile – the new windows looked great.  They should really help the house rent when we put it back on the market in a week.

I’m happy we did the window replacement – it was worth it.

Recovering After a Water Leak

104

I should have double checked the bathroom before we left on vacation for a week.

But I didn’t.

There are just some things that you should do when you have kids in your home, but I was too excited to be on the beach and soaking up the sun to be worried with something as simple as the taps in the house.  I was sure I was the last one to use them anyway, so I didn’t feel that there would be any problems.

Boy, I was wrong.

What we came back to when we got home was nothing short of a disaster.  I had never smelled anything so foul in my life, and I never felt so much pain in the bottom of my heart – my house was not in good shape at all.

I cried a little.

Once I had composed myself, I decided that it was time to tackle the problem head-on and get the people out here that we needed to get the house fixed.  I wasn’t doing it on my own, so I picked up the phone and started to find someone that specialized in Water Damage Restoration Altadena – there had to be someone out there that could help.

Thankfully that search didn’t take long, and before we knew it, there was someone at our home working on the problem.  In fact, if you take a look at the picture above, you can see some of the work they did – it didn’t take them long at all.

We  are hoping to be back in our house by the end of the week.  Hopefully something like this never happens to us again.

Window Shopping–Literally

While most people don’t think of me as a funny person, I had a little chuckle to myself today.  For all the years that I had been told that it was okay to go “window shopping”, I was actually out shopping for windows today.

That makes you chuckle a little too, right?

It is okay if it doesn’t – but it is okay if it does too.

Yes, I was really out shopping for windows replacement in Hancock Park while I was staying over at a friend’s house there.  She had to go to work today, so I needed to find something to do to spend my time, and there was a storefront that was just calling my name.

My house needs windows badly, but I had never found ones that I fell in love with.  I had hoped that today was going to be the day, and low and behold it was.

Finding the style I was looking for wasn’t easy as I’m picky.  I have always been that person that wants something a little different, and that sometimes means that you walk out of a store with empty shopping bags.

I’ve done that so many times.

But today was my lucky day and I found the perfect windows for my home.  In fact, I’ve ordered them to be installed in a couple of weeks when I am back home.

I can’t wait to see how my house looks with a facelift.

New Work Clothes

While I had not planned on it, I had a good friend of mine stop by on my birthday and he dropped off a present.  Mike and I have been friends since we were in high school and we usually make time to get together on each others birthdays, and I had almost forgot that it was going to happen this year.  I’ve been so busy with my new job that I had not counted on him stopping by, but I was happy that he did.

He brought me some presents.

Instead of the usual gift of chocolates (I have a weakness for dark chocolate), he brought me some new grooming apparel that he picked out himself.  I suppose that I shouldn’t have been surprised as we looked at some a couple of weeks ago while we were out on a “date”.  I could tell that he must have paid attention to what I was saying then, as he picked out the ones that I mentioned liking including this one:

The clothing was the perfect gift as I needed some new ones for work.  He is always so thoughtful – I wonder if he will ever have the guts to ask me out.

Having Trouble with Hotmail Email Attachments

I’m no expert when it comes to using a computer and I really struggle sometimes online.  Those things that you probably find to be really easy usually end up being a disaster for me.  In some respects it is embarrassing to even admit some of these struggles I have, but I figure that this blog is a bit of therapy for me to really get my issues out to the world and work through them.

So please bear with me.

Anyway, my day started off relatively easy as I thought that I could send some pictures to my brother using my Hotmail account.  I had done so a million times before, so I thought that it should only take a minute.

Well, it didn’t work out that way – it turned out to be a disaster.

After trying three or four times, I headed over to Youtube to try and find some kind of tutorial to help me add an attachment.  I don’t know about you, but I learn visually, so that means that videos work very well for me to learn something.

So, that is what I did.  In fact, this is the video I watched that walked me through the entire process:

It didn’t take me too long to figure out exactly what I was doing wrong, and within just a little bit of time, I had everything sorted out.

Thank goodness.

Hopefully I’ll have less trouble the next time I try to use hotmail.
